What exactly is an add-in?
An add-in is a program that extends the functionality of a product.  That extensibility can range from a simple add-in, such as our Close All add-in, to a complex add-in such as Flasher or Scripter.

I want to create a popup when my page loads.  Why won't Spawn do this?
Spawn doesn't allow you to create a popup when your page loads or when you page unloads for one simple reason; 99.9% of the people on the Internet are running a browser or other software that will block such a popup.  Because no one will see the popup you create, Spawn doesn't support that.

Why don't your add-ins work with FrontPage 98?
Our add-ins are COM add-ins.  Microsoft added the ability to create COM add-ins to extend the functionality of Office products when they released Office 2000.  Therefore, the technology doesn't exist in FrontPage 98.

I have a non-English version of FrontPage.  Will your add-ins work?
No.  Our add-ins will only work on English systems.

When I attempt to install your add-ins, I am told that I need a new version of the Windows Installer.  What does that mean?
We use Microsoft's Windows Installer technology (the same technology used in Microsoft Office) to install all add-ins and utilities.  The version of the Windows Installer that we use is the same version used by Office XP.  However, if you have an older version installed, you will be told to upgrade.

You can get the latest version of the Windows Installer from the following links to Microsoft's Web site.  (Windows XP already has the latest version of the Windows Installer.)

Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 Windows Installer
Windows 98 / Me Windows Installer

How do I use your add-ins after I install them?
Unless otherwise noted, our add-ins will be added to the Tools menu in FrontPage inside of a submenu called Jimco Add-ins.

How do I uninstall an add-in?
Our add-ins install using Microsoft's Windows Installer technology.  All of our add-ins will be listed in the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel and can be uninstalled from there.

Should I use the Add-ins dialog box in FrontPage to uninstall an add-in?
You should only use the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel to uninstall one of our add-ins.  This will ensure that all files and directories are removed properly.

You had an add-in a while back that I liked, but I can't find it anymore.  Where did it go?
We will occasionally remove an add-in from our site so that we can improve it.  Check back later if you find that an add-in you're looking for is no longer available.

Why do some of your add-ins only work with FrontPage 2002 or 2003 and not FrontPage 2000?
FrontPage 2002 and 2003 add a great deal of functionality that did not exist in FrontPage 2000.  Whenever we make a design decision to take advantage of that new technology, the resulting add-in may not be compatible with FrontPage 2000.

We make as many add-ins as possible compatible with all versions of FrontPage.

I can't get your add-ins working in Windows Vista. Why not?
Your problem is due to Vista's User Account Control. In order for my add-ins to work, you must install them elevated, and you must run FrontPage elevated once after install.

To run the install elevated, right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator. If the add-in is distributed as an MSI file, you will need to run a command prompt elevated and then run the installation from that command prompt.

To run FrontPage elevated, you need to right-click on the icon and choose Run As Administrator.
