Conclusion

Carrara is one of those rare products that is a complete joy to use. Many 3D graphics tools have a high frustration factor, that desire to toss the computer across the room because you just can't get things to act the way you want them to. Carrara manages to completely remove that due not only to the excellent interface and separation of different tasks into different rooms, but also by a combination of many subtle features that you really have to use to appreciate. The result is a unique product that 3D artists of any skill set can use to create impressive 3D scenes and put them into motion.

Usability : 5/5
In order to truly appreciate the usability of Carrara, you have to use it for a while. The layout and interface of this product lend to a truly wonderful user experience.

Interface : 5/5
If you've read my other reviews of products that used to be Metacreations products, you already know that I do like the interface. It works the way my mind works, so it feels like an extension of my hand. Give the Carrara demo a try to see if you feel the same way.

Intuitiveness : 5/5
I don't need to say much here other than the fact that you can use Carrara (even as complex as it is) pretty efficiently without even opening the manual.

Features : 4/5
The only thing lacking in Carrara is the ability to import DEM data for terrain modeling. One could argue that Carrara isn't really a terrain modeling program, but the rich features that are available for terrain modeling make you wish for a DEM import option.

Documentation : 5/5
Carrara ships with a full manual in PDF format. The manual is clearly written with high-quality screen shots and walkthroughs. If you'd prefer the printed manual, you can order one from Eovia for a nominal charge.

Price vs. Value Ratio : 5/5
Carrara is expensive, but if you compare it to other products with similar features, it's not. You get a lot of bang for your buck with Carrara. In fact, for many scenes, no other application is necessary.

Reviewer's Tilt : 3/5
I used and loved Carrara 1.0. I haven't had the time to get back into it since then, but I must acknowledge that I've always had a fondness for this product. With that said, I did attempt to review this product (as with all other products) with an open mind and objectively.

Overall : 5/5
There's no way to not give Carrara a 5 overall. It's a great product that's a pleasure to use. It costs nothing to try it for yourself, so download the demo today and get started with your own Carrara experience!
