Introduction

I was first introduced to Ulead many years ago when I purchased a copy of PhotoImpact and Cool 3D when they were brand new apps. In fact, Cool 3D was my first foray into 3D graphics, and I was hooked from that point on. When I started working with DVD videos, I naturally turned to Ulead and their DVD MovieFactory authoring application. Within a short amount of time, I grew out of the locked-in design methodology of MovieFactory and similar applications. The natural progression was to turn to DVD Workshop.

DVD Workshop is a professional level DVD authoring environment, but don't let that dissuade you if you're an amateur at DVD authoring. The interface is excellent and extremely intuitive. When I say professional level, I'm speaking of the quality of the output and the feature-set that you'll find in DVD Workshop. DVD authors had some gripes about DVD Workshop 1.0, and it's obvious that Ulead responded. The shortcomings of version 1 have been overcome in version 2.

In this review, I'll cover the major features of DVD Workshop and give you an example of the kind of work you can do with it. If you'd like to explore it further, I encourage you to take advantage of the trial version that Ulead offers.
